Bedroom Paint Colour Ideas To Inspire Your Next Makeover!

Bedroom Paint Colour Ideas To Inspire Your Next Makeover!

When it comes to decorating our homes, the kitchen is often seen as the room that requires the most consideration. However, once we appreciate how much time we spend in bed as well as the hugely emotional attachment we have to our bedrooms, it’s worth putting the same amount of time and effort into getting our bedroom right too.

It’s common knowledge that many of us have trouble maintaining good sleep habits and whilst there are several steps you can take to improve your sleep cycle, the colour you paint your bedroom is a great place to start. Colour psychology is an important factor to consider when selecting paint colours, especially in our bedroom. Certain colours can make us feel calm and serene whilst others can make us feel energised or even anxious and overstimulated. This then poses the question, “How do we want our bedroom to make us feel?”

The colour of our bedroom walls and ceilings greatly impacts our mood. With most people wishing to create a cocooning, calm, and relaxed space conducive to rest, selecting colours that evoke these feelings is so important.

Is it also worth considering that your paint colour will also influence other design aspects of your room? This includes your flooring, bedlinen, soft furnishings and accessories, so getting it right before implementing these elements is vital.

So what colours should you consider for your bedroom?

Currently, the most popular colour for a bedroom is green (in particular sage green), with neutral shades of beige and grey following closely behind. This is not surprising given the feelings of warmth and serenity these colours tend to evoke in most people. Whilst grey has fallen out of favour somewhat in recent years in favour of more taupe-hued neutral, it can still be used successfully to create a calming bedroom space, particularly in West and South facing aspects.

Other colours garnering popularity for bedrooms are pastel-hued blues and grown-up shades of pink with brown or grey undertones. These colours offer a break from traditional neutrals with the opportunity to match ceilings and woodwork in a lighter or darker shade of the wall colour to create an overall cocooning and cohesive feel - perfect for ensuring a good night's rest!

Lastly, not to be underestimated is the power of wallpaper. Place strongly patterned papers on the wall behind a bed for a bold accent or opt for simpler paper to add just a subtle texture. For the braver souls out there, add wallpaper to all of your walls for a luxurious and maximalist  aesthetic, packing some serious personality and also a sense of fun.
