When in doubt....go green!

When in doubt....go green!

Green - the most versatile shade to add a sense of calm to your home

Green has been proven to be one of the most calming and restful colours you can use in your home. Perfect when our busy lifestyle dictates that our home be our haven. Green also lends itself well to the Irish landscape and allows us to create a sense of the outdoors indoors.

Green is a supremely versatile colour, with varying undertones of yellow, blue and grey dictating the compatibility of each green to your specific light conditions.

To help you figure out the right green for your home, here at The Colour Library we have selected our favourite shades for each light aspect to take the mystery out of which green to use where. Keep reading to explore our favourite shade of greens!

Greens for North Facing Rooms:

Blue hued Northern light needs to be neutralised by yellow tones so earthy and comforting greens will work well here. Choose darker shades in rooms primarily used from the evening onwards for a cocooning feel.

Greens for East Facing Rooms:

With light that varies hugely from morning to evening, strong blue toned greens provide a welcome and interesting backdrop to East facing rooms.

Greens for South Facing Rooms:

A light aspect that creates a bright golden hue, mid depth blue and grey toned greens work best here. Depending on your room function, this a great opportunity to use deeper shades of green that might appear too dark elsewhere. Alternatively, select softer shades of green, where you want to maximise the sense of space.

Greens for West Facing Rooms:

Like East facing rooms, the light changes from morning to evening. Lean into warmer tones similar to those used in North facing rooms, to retain a sense of softness and warmth throughout the whole day. Olive tones work particularly well here.
